First Inspection/Identification

Every rug that enters our facility begins with a detailed inspection and identification process. This crucial first step allows our team to determine the rug’s origin—whether it’s hand-knotted in Persia, machine-made in Europe, or a contemporary piece crafted elsewhere. We examine the fiber type, dye stability, construction method, and any existing damage or staining. This information helps us select the safest and most effective cleaning method tailored to that specific rug, ensuring we preserve its beauty and integrity while achieving a thorough clean.

Dusting

Before any moisture touches the rug, we begin with an intensive dusting process. Over time, rugs accumulate dry contaminants such as dirt, sand, skin cells, and fine dust that settle deep within the fibers. Our dusting method uses specialized equipment to gently vibrate and release these particles, which regular vacuuming can’t remove. This step is essential—not only does it reduce wear caused by abrasive grit, but it also allows the washing stage to be far more effective.

Washing

Depending on the rug’s construction and condition, we employ one of several washing techniques. For durable, colorfast rugs, we use full immersion soak washing, allowing water and mild detergents to deeply cleanse the fibers from the inside out. For more delicate or antique pieces, we may opt for surface brush washing, which gently lifts soiling while preserving the rug’s texture and dyes. Every wash is pH-balanced and fiber-specific, ensuring your rug receives the highest standard of care.

Drying/Deodorising

Once cleaned, rugs are carefully dried using a combination of air drying and natural sun drying, depending on the rug's requirements. Proper drying is essential to prevent mildew, odor retention, or fiber distortion. Our drying areas are climate-controlled and monitored to ensure even drying without stress on the rug’s structure. When appropriate, sunlight is used not only to aid drying but also to naturally deodorize and freshen the rug—leaving it clean, fresh-smelling, and free of residual moisture.
